A Purpose Behind Family Photos

Some of our good friends were gifted a certificate for family photos by a sweet lady we know (side note – this is a great gift to give to a young family!), and we finally got the pictures done last week! Rain caused us to bump them back a day, and all that rain left the ground pretty soggy. That wouldn’t be a terrible problem except I wanted to use a couch (a “settee” if you are of the fancier persuasion) in the pasture and wasn’t about to carry it all the way out there, so I needed motor assistance. We have gotten our vehicle stuck in the mud back there before, but I told Korey the sunshine had probably dried everything up enough and smiled ever so sweetly at him, and he loaded it up in the truck to drive it out there for me.

In reality, the sun hadn’t really dried everything up. But thankfully he sped through the pasture fast enough that we avoided getting stuck in all the mud. I think that maybe he wasn’t super fired up about all that, but we’ll remedy any lingering resentment with the marriage challenge in April. 😜

This family has never had family pictures done before, so I was really excited for them to have some taken. Sometimes we feel like family pictures are done simply out of duty to make Mom happy, but psychologists say the pictures are actually very beneficial for your kids. Seeing family photos as they grow leads to increased self confidence and self esteem and helps to establish identity and sense of self.

“When children grow up seeing photos of themselves proudly displayed around their home, it says to them, ‘I am a valuable and important member of my family. I matter,’” says Jaclyn Gulotta, Ph.D.

Personally, I have WAY too many photos hanging out somewhere in the digital world. I just rarely take the time or spend the money to get them printed which is silly because it is such a valuable thing to do. In fact, since I’ve already committed to the marriage challenge for next month, I guess I’ll go ahead and commit to printing some photos too!

Erik and Jessica have already said they will be printing several of theirs, and I can’t wait to see them adorning the walls of their home and making an impact on their family!!

(And on a side note, if you are ready to find that right home to hang your family photos in, I am a licensed realtor and would be happy to help you!)
