Extended Family Photos at Carpenter’s Bluff

I had the opportunity this weekend to take some extended family photos for my sweet friend, Christina. She and her brothers decided to surprise their mom with some nice pictures of her kids and grandkids for Mother’s Day (so if you know their mom, shhh, don’t tell her!!). I think she is going to be very pleasantly surprised at how well they clean up!

Their grandmother grew up in the Carpenter’s Bluff area and is buried near the bridge, so they knew photos in this spot would be particularly special to their mom. All her most precious people in a well-loved place!

People really like pictures of all their family. Several years ago my grandmother wanted an extended family photo, but it was impossible to get everyone together at the same time. So the photographer took individual family shots and photoshopped them all together into one big photo. The fact that my grandmother liked that picture proves that it’s more about who is in the picture than the quality of the photo because that photo was not good. The proportions were way off, so some people had huge heads, some were tiny, people were just stuck in everywhere. It makes me think of the funny internet jokes of photoshopped pictures.

But she had it framed and displayed until she died because it was special to her.

Taking pictures at this bridge is always a little interesting. It’s kind of like taking pictures of really little kids, where what’s going on behind the camera looks very different from what’s in front! The area is perhaps what you could call slightly redneck. 😆 We were entertained by 4 wheelers/go carts mudding in the riverbed under the bridge, and we kept waiting for the sound of a crash but fortunately, that never happened. So we just got to enjoy the sound of a racetrack in the background.

The bridge is also a popular spot for expressing various words and vulgarities with cans of spray paint, so just don’t let your kids look around too much if you take them! I think between being mindful of where we stood and a little photoshop help when necessary, we managed to avoid anything too offensive in the photos though!

While most people don’t particularly enjoy family photos, particularly teenagers, there were no surly attitudes, and we had a good time. I think Christina’s mom is going to be so thrilled that they all went to the effort to make this happen!
