Getting my kids to clean up after themselves can be quite a struggle. It is helpful, however, when I have real-life examples to point to as to why keeping things clean is important and our most recent house renovation is definitely a good real-life example. (I admit, I do use the term “clean” rather loosely – no one who walked into my house on a random afternoon would accuse me of it being too clean. 😜)
As I’ve mentioned before, my husband and I flip houses, and this one we are working on makes me want to go home and add ALL THE THINGS to the Goodwill donation pile. The house had been used for storage for many years, so we couldn’t even walk on the floor. We were just mountain-climbing over stuff. The house itself had also fallen into significant disrepair because the roof had started leaking quite some time ago in several places and never been fixed. But, nineteen dump trailer loads of stuff and rotten roof materials plus one new roof later, it’s looking significantly better!
We never completely know all the reasons a house becomes so neglected, and it doesn’t really matter. Sometimes houses (like life!) can just get pretty messy. But the messier it is, the more satisfying it is to transform it into a comfortable, inviting place for someone to make a home in!
We still have a ways to go, but you can see the improvement in these pictures. And for an even better feel of what it was like, you can watch videos of it on our Bells and Whistles facebook page. I can’t wait to see how this one turns out!!
If you or anyone you know has a house to sell, whether it’s in good shape or, well, less-than-good shape 😜, let us know and we can help!
